About Kat

Kat comes from the Finck family of East Ironbound Island off the South Shore of Nova Scotia. She grew up with pride in her island roots deeply ingrained by her father and an appreciation of all natural materials from her mother: a weaver, gardener, and textile artist. Her creations are all influenced by her roots, her history, and her own adventures as a circus performer, midwife, and maker.

Raised to work hard alongside her family growing their food, raising animals, and repairing the old buildings they lived and worked in, Kat left Nova Scotia to pursue a career in the circus but continued to learn new ways to build and create everywhere she lived and worked. She toured internationally as a juggler, aerial acrobat, and aerial rigger for 17 years, and built kitchens and bathrooms in several countries during and in between these contracts.
Kat finally decided she needed to lean in further to her desire to create pieces with fine craftsmanship and attention to detail. She attended The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship in Rockport, Maine to train intensively in the art of furniture making.
